By letter dated 07/20 that arrived here yesterday, we have been denied for Medicaid. The generic form letter says that the denial is based on our failure to provide the requested information. Since we did provide ALL requested information, some of it for the fourth time, their stated reason for denial makes no sense at all.
Obviously we will be appealing this decision. But, that will take time and is not a fast process. This was disastrous news.
We also were informed yesterday that the reprocessing of claims has now been done and the figure for us to come up with for her surgery is $1700. An impossible figure. Especially when we don’t yet have the rent money due August 1.
I truly have no idea what we are going to do.

Hope the appeal goes well. I've had dealings with all those processes myself and all I can say is hang in there. You will probably win out in the end. I did. It's a long process, though, and sometimes I think it is all deliberate to test one's resolve to hang in there. I had a half sister who gave up the appeals, to her lasting regret, and her last years were not pleasant.
Thanks, Randy. I don't have much faith in their appeal process as it seems to consist of calling a number and having somebody tell you that their system says no. they don't give a real explanation.
But, still, we are going to give it a shot.
Kev, hoping for the best. Hang in there with the appeals - and how is your disability claim going? I really recommend using a claims service - yes, it costs a one-time percentage of the award, but it is worth it in the long run.

Although I'm sure your senator and congressmen are busy at the moment, this is what they are there for. And they will be going, again, on break August 8 and back to their home towns. You should contact them to petition SS and Medicaid on your behalf. Best of luck.

Medicaid and SS always turn people down the first time--it seems like a policy. But you must reapply and keep at it, especially with letters from doctors, nurses, social workers explaining your disability and how it affects your ability to work. I run a small agency for people with HIV/AIDS and HCV, and the government makes it very hard--but you will get coverage in the end. Lots of churches and other groups have emergency funds for just this sort of thing. Catholic Charities is wonderful in the New England area, and any of the Action agencies (set up in the 1970s, as I recall). Sorry this is so hard for you and your family.

Kevin, our hospital here has a charity fund that one can apply to if in dire straits...I know, because I had to do that. They gave me a pass on bills for 6 months due to financial hardship. Does the hospital have anything like that there?
