I believe the local writing community matters and should be nurtured. I continued to advertise this group even after they moved from Plano to Richardson making it impossible for me to attend their meetings. The point was to get the word out in the local area and I was glad to help with that mission.
Apparently the publicly stated policy of wanting to spread the word has changed. In what seems to me to be an amazingly short sighted decision, Membership Chair John Vance states below that they will be removing non-payers from the e-mail distribution list. Considering the economic realities we face here on a daily basis and other issues that I have shared here over the years including my wife’s fights against cancer, my own health issues, and other problems, even if I had the money which I don’t, I won’t be paying WGT $25 bucks for the privilege to run their advertising on this blog.
Unless their policy changes, I expect to be dropped from the distribution list after their stated deadline of next Tuesday. As such this will be the last blog post on my blog from the Writer’s Guild of Texas. I wish them well in their endeavors…..

importance of approaching writing as a profession, examine the process of
dealing with agents and editors, and present basic "don'ts" and "dos" regarding
contracts.
LaRee
is the author of seven historical novels and two non-fiction books. She's been a
writing teacher and professional editor for almost 20 years and "ghosted" or
"doctored" an impressive number of published books. She has
recently finished the second book in a new cozy mystery series, and is now
working on a stand-alone mystery.
