Short Story Wednesday Review: Amos Hangs On by Jim Newell

Normally, I have a new review ready to go for this deal today. But, it has been a rough few days here so I am running my review from 2013 today. Make sure you check out the list over on Patti Abbott’s blog.

It is an idyllic spring morning at the lake as well as at the Andersons’ cottage. Natalie is baking something while Tom is working on his latest column for the Morning Chronicle. The family cat, Amos, is lounging on the windowsill eyeballing the birds that are going to and from a feeder in a nearby tree.

A bullet smashing through the window shatters the scene of domestic tranquility and the peaceful morning.

In the aftermath of the shooting, an investigation is launched by the local police as well as Tom. Who the shooter is and whether the act is tied into Tom’s columns are just two of the many questions that have to be answered in Amos Hangs On by Jim Newell.  A fast and fun short read that works well and is suitable for readers of all ages.

  1. Cool. I should go look...did Newell ever get a paper and ink edition for this story?
