Scott's Take: Grim Death and Bill The Electrocuted Criminal by Mike Mignola and Tom Sniegoski

Grim Death and Bill The Electrocuted Criminal by Mike Mignola and Tom Sniegoski features Death’s underling, Grim Death. Death is a strict boss. As Grim Death owes Death he must comply with the mission set before him. He is to avenge anyone and everyone who was murdered before their time. A case comes his way when a ghost of the recently departed visits Grim Death and explains that they have been murdered and sometimes the circumstances around the death. Regardless of how much or how little Grim Death is told, his mission is to figure out what happened, who did it, and avenge the death.

Think a 1930s pulpy style gothic Batman read. He has a butler who is basically his Alfred. The tale is told through frequent flashbacks about Grim Death’s origin and various cases. It is hard to talk about the main case that drives the read forward without spoilers, so I won’t.

Illustration work is created by Mike Mignola who you may know of by way of his work in the Hellboy franchise. That work should give you a strong indication of how this book is done. There is a good amount of action, some horror elements, and some humor.

I highly recommend Grim Death and Bill The Electrocuted Criminal by Mike Mignola and Tom Sniegoski for Hellboy fans or Batman fans or for those folks looking for something fun and a bit different than the normal reads.
