Scott's Take: The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing Vol. 1 by Matthew Rosenberg and Ryan Cady

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing Vol. 1 by Matthew Rosenberg and Ryan Cady and illustrated by Carmine Di Giandomenico, Francesco Francavilla, and Will Robson, is a complicated read featuring incredible art and two different Jokers. Yes, the story includes two different protagonists who both claim to be the Joker. Who is telling the truth is unclear. The backups, which are also included in this story, are sliver age wacky style stories about the Joker.

There is plenty of violence, sick and twisted humor, as well as various characters from the Bat Family, but no Batman. This is not a story about Batman if one is looking for that. This is a bad guy story about the two Jokers.

The art is excellent and depicts the chaos and death really well. The jokes are typically Joker which is dark and probably offensive to some people. Some of the variant covers at the end are really good. This series will be continued in Volume 2 which currently does not have a release date or a title.

My reading copy came by way of the Hoopla App and the Dallas Public Library System.
