Short Story Review: "Hard Time" by Tom Roberts

The boy wants out of the jail cell and that won’t happen until Deputy U. S. Marshall  Jedediah Taggart gets there the next day. Marshall Taggert has quite the reputation. A reputation that the young redheaded boy has no idea about. While they wait Sheriff Lindsey tries to educate the boy about his future and life in general in “Hard Time.”

Written by Tom Roberts and recently published on the “Beat to A Pulp” website this is a solidly good western tale.  Told mostly through dialogue between the prisoner and the Sheriff, the story is rich in details, action, and characters. It also packs a powerful punch twist ending this reader never saw coming.
