My personal favorite review of my own books was the one that lambasted me for saying that one of my books was a romance when there wasn't any romance in it. First of all, I had never said the book in question was a romance, as I don't consider any of my books romances in the genre sense, and second of all it did have a love story.
The deeper problem here is that people are self-publishing thinking they're going to make huge amounts of money because they've been told that's what will happen. Being completely ignorant of the publishing industry as a whole, and having been told over and over that they need good reviews in order to achieve all of that handy cash, they immediately take umbrage when someone posts what is now and always has been a subjective opinion of their book.
I think the end result of this train of illogic is fairly obvious. "I didn't make the thousands of dollars I was promised I would make if I self-published, so obviously it's the fault of these people who gave me a bad review." Because, of course, it could possibly be that their book is competing with half a million others.
Well said.
