I have been wondering the same thing. A very interesting piece and one well worth your time:

Why Is The Media Ignoring Author Exploitation By Publishers?

Author Solutions--The Latest

Playing catchup on e-mails and such that I have missed with what has been going on the last two weeks. Just stumbled across this: "Author Solutions' Rep: People Complaining About Our Scammy 'Services' Are Engaged In 'Racketeering'" over at TechDirt. The amazing piece is here.

Interesting Reading Elsewhere--Author David Gaughran

Thanks to twitter, I just came across author David Gaughran's piece on the purchase of  vanity publisher Author Solutions by Penguin. This purchase means that Author House, who banned me years ago from reviewing their books because I was not as positive on occasion as they felt I should be, will now be part of the Penguin empire.

It also means that, as noted in the piece, http://indiereader.com/2012/07/penguins-new-business-model-exploiting-writers/ Penguin is now a part of those who seek to exploit writers for financial profit.
