This program will introduce
blogging as a
way for writers to try out ideas, to write more consistently and
regularly, and
to engage with an audience. It also focuses on the components of
a successful
and effective blog post.
Wendi Pierce attended TCU,
where she
earned a degree in English, with a minor in philosophy. She went
on to earn a
Master of Arts in English from SMU. At SMU, she was awarded a
Graduate Studies
Teaching Fellowship thus beginning her career as a professor of
writing. She
has taught at SMU, Brookhaven College, Collin County Community
College, El
Centro College, and Tarrant County College Northwest, where she
now serves as
Chair of the English Department. Wendi is co-author of Historic Road Trips from Dallas/Fort Worth, a book
that provides a
road map of driving trips throughout Texas and a narrative
history of the tiny
towns, historic markers, and frontier battles along the way.

Published author Jaye Wells will compare
the process
of writing a novel to the classic three-act structure of a
story/hero’s
journey. Act 1 focuses on “The Setup”, a discussion of different
methods of
preparing an idea to get ready to write. Act 2 focuses on “Rising
Action and
Obstacles”, getting that draft written. Act 3 covers “The
Resolution” or
revisions, and includes her “Top Ten List of Stupid Writer Tricks”
to make a
manuscript shine.
After several years as a magazine editor
and
freelance writer, Jaye Wells finally decided to leave the facts
behind and make
up her own reality. Her overactive imagination and life-long
fascination with
the arcane and freakish blended nicely with this new career path.
Her Sabina
Kane urban fantasy series is a blend of dark themes, grave stakes
and wicked
humor. Jaye lives in Texas with her saintly husband and devilish
son. Her work
is represented by Rebecca Strauss of McIntosh
& Otis.
