Guesting On My Blog

It has been a while, so I thought I would remind you that I welcome guest posts here. If you have read this kind of post before, and have an interest, please read this updated post today as I have added a couple of things.

Guests are more than welcome and very much appreciated. Unlike some folks and their places, I don’t have a lot of forms to fill out or hoops to jump through as I have made the process as easy as possible. Most questions you may have been already answered below so please read the post before reaching out.

Depending on my reviews—Open days are currently Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. I usually run excerpts from published or about to be published works on Sundays as excerpts seem to work best on those days.

No AI for anything. Period.

Topic--pretty much anything goes. While my blog is mainly aimed towards items of interest for readers and writers of mystery and crime fiction, I am open to pretty much anything. I do ask that folks avoid the topics of religion and politics unless either or both directly relate to the work being discussed or promoted.

Please Note --- I am not going to run anything that advocates big pharma is hiding the cure for cancer. Folks that come up with that stuff deserve a special place in hell.

Before contacting me, please have an actual idea in mind. I absolutely do not assign topics. That means I am NOT going to tell you what to write about. This is your opportunity to write what you want to write about. You know your books, your expertise in topics, etc. I do not. Your idea does not have to be set in stone. It does need to have some detail. Have at least a couple of things that you know you want to have in your piece and tell me that in your pitch.

Word Count: Totally up to you. I do not set a maximum or a minimum word count.

When your piece is ready, you send it to me by email and include a 100 word or fewer bio. Also send any pics that you think should be included in the piece. While some guest posts are super heavy in pictures, I think it works best to have two or so. While I can and do lift author photos and book covers from Amazon and author websites, it is easier if you just send it from the start as well as any other pics you believe should be included.

Exclusivity: The period should be original to my blog. I request that you allow me to be the exclusive home for the piece for 90 days. This allows me to make multiple posts about your guest post on social media and still bring in readers.

I have had folks write for me one weekend and, within two weeks, ignore the exclusivity period and run the exact same piece elsewhere. Rather kills the point of my efforts to bring attention to your post.

This is, as always, a nonpaying opportunity. Yes, I absolutely value your work. I also have no income other than SSD (and that is just a few hundred each month) and am supporting myself, my adult son, and this old house on what little I inherited when my Mom passed. The bank account is steadily shrinking and I am doing the best I can to hang in here as inflation, my worsening health, and other issues are making it even harder.

At the rate things are going, if I am still alive, I fully expect to be homeless by the summer of 2026. So, this blog won’t matter. In the meantime, I do what I can, as I can.

While I have no funds to pay you, I can promise to promote the heck out of your appearance. You will be seen. I can’t promise a certain number of sales, but most guests do see a spike in their sales. Guests who are on the blog on a semi regular basis do far better than one off appearances, but everyone does see an impact.

Questions/ pitches should be sent to me at Kevinrtipple AT Verizon.net

I hope you choose to be a part of things here. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Guest Post: RESILIENCE AND THE AMATEUR DETECTIVE by Peggy Rothschild

Please welcome Peggy Rothschild to the blog today. Her new book is scheduled to come out on February 22nd.

RESILIENCE AND THE AMATEUR DETECTIVE

by Peggy Rothschild

In amateur sleuth mysteries, it is not uncommon for the protagonist—or someone they care about—to be accused of a crime. In order to clear their name or prove a loved one’s innocence, they start investigating on their own. This trope has been a staple of the mystery genre since its beginning. Even Wilkie Collins’ THE MOONSTONE has this element with Franklin Blake investigating the theft of the famous diamond in hopes of clearing his name. This idea has been used in cozies to great effect—forcing the main character outside their comfort zone to face new challenges and grow.

Like the callouses that develop from going barefoot over the course of a summer, resilience isn’t something these characters get because it’s needed in the moment. While some of them start their stories with a wealth of resilience, others grow tougher as their adventure progresses.

In Mia P. Manansala’s Agatha and Lefty-nominated debut, ARSENIC AND ADOBO, Lila Macapagal moves home after an ugly breakup and tries to save her Tita Rosie’s restaurant. Enter her ex, a spiteful restaurant critic. When he drops dead after a confrontation with Lila, she becomes a prime suspect. To stave off arrest, Lila begins investigating the crime.

In the Lefty-nominated humorous cozy, MIMI LEE GETS A CLUE, Jennifer J. Chow introduces intrepid pet groomer, Mimi Lee and her cat, Marshmallow. When a local breeder is murdered, Mimi winds up at the top of the suspect list. With the help of Marshmallow, Mimi Lee hunts for clues, facing dangers she never imagined—or ever imagined she’d have the courage to face.

DEATH BY DUMPLING is another wonderful restaurant-themed cozy. Written by Vivian Chen, the mystery features Lana Lee. Lana has quit her job and is waiting tables at the family restaurant to pay her bills. When the restaurant’s property manager dies from a severe allergic reaction to his meal, the entire staff comes under suspicion—since they all knew about his deadly food allergy. To protect her family and co-workers, Lana searches for the truth—and also finds her footing in life.

All of these characters show their resilience as they face new challenges and track down the guilty party. It’s not about what knocks or wears them down—it’s about how they get back up again. And sometimes they get up only to fall again; it’s all part of the journey.

In my new mystery, A DEADLY BONE TO PICK, after losing her husband, career and reputation, Molly Madison makes a fresh start in Pier Point, California. As she settles in, the last thing she expects is to become a murder suspect. For the second time. With the help of two loveable dogs, she digs to find out who is really responsible for the crime. And, along the way, makes new friends and develops a sense of belonging in her new community. As Molly faces suspicious cops and tracks a killer, she grows tougher and more resilient with every step—just like those summer callouses.

I aim to be like Molly.

After losing their home during a California wildfire, Peggy Rothschild and her husband moved to the beach community of Los Osos along the central coast. Peggy’s had short stories published in The Best Laid Plans, Heartbreaks and Half-Truths, and Avenging Angelenos anthologies. She also illustrated the children’s book Angie’s Great Big Beautiful Life: Tales of a Rescue Cat.

Peggy is a member of Sisters in Crime. When not at her desk or out walking, you can usually find her in the garden. A DEADLY BONE TO PICK is her first cozy mystery.

NEWS: More Guests

I hope you have been enjoying the guests this week on the blog with author Paul A. Barra, Aubrey Nye Hamilton, Jeanne of the BPL, and just today, Steve Liskow. Not to mention the reviews and links to interesting things found elsewhere.

I wanted to update you as more guest posts have been lined up covering the next few days.

Fridays mean Friday’s Forgotten Books. This week a review by Barry Ergang will run. You can find out more at 1 AM CST when the review goes live.

For those who don’t know, Saturdays feature reviews by my son, Scott Tipple. This coming Saturday he reviews a graphic novel that features Batman.

Sunday author Lori Robbins will be on the blog. She will be discussing her new book, Murder in Second Position: An On Pointe Mystery.

Of course, Monday features another all new review by Aubrey.

Jeanne of the BPL will be back on the blog Tuesday with her third cozy mystery review in as many weeks. Following her reviews of Live and Let Chai by Bree Baker and Boston Scream Murder by Ginger Bolton, she reviews One Poison Pie by Lynn Calhoon.

You could be a guest as well. If you are interested, please check out the guidelines on the blog at https://kevintipplescorner.blogspot.com/2021/12/want-to-be-guest.html

By the way, if you like what we do here, we really need your support. Please like and share the posts on your social media channels. I’d love to see more comments. Especially on guest posts. I am sure that the comment moderation deters some folks, but it is in place because of scummy spammers. I am sorry it is necessary and do everything I can to not leave folks hanging. Blogger does not always tell me in a timely manner.

These are the last few hours for the annual Critters Reader Poll. As of right now, there are seven review sites running as Kevin's Corner attempts to defend the first place crown. Currently, Kevin’s Corner and the mega site, I Smell Sheep, continue to trade the first place spot back and forth. If you like what we do on Kevin's Corner, please consider voting for us at https://critters.org/predpoll/reviewsite.shtml

After you vote, please be sure to respond to the confirmation email to verify your vote.

Thank you!

Want To Be A Guest?

For those interested, I welcome guest posts or blogs on my blog. The open days are currently Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. I usually run excerpts from published or about to be published works on Sundays as they seem to work best on those days.

Topic--pretty much anything goes. While my blog is mainly aimed towards items of interest for readers and writers of mystery and crime fiction, I am open to pretty much anything. I do ask that folks avoid the topics of religion and politics unless either or both directly relate to the work being discussed or promoted.

Word Count: Totally up to you. I do not set a maximum or a minimum word count.

This is, as always, a non paying opportunity. Yes, I value your work. I also have no income other than SSD (and that is just a few hundred each month) and am supporting this old house as well as us on what little I inherited when my Mom passed.

While I have no funds to pay you, I can promise to promote the heck out of your appearance. You will be seen. I can not promise a certain number of sales, but most guests do see a spike in their sales. Guests who are on the blog on a semi regular basis do far better than one off appearances, but everyone does see an impact.

The Week That Was.....In Case You Missed It

It was a busy week and not just with links and news items. There were new reviews and guests posts.

Monday saw the return of Aubrey Nye Hamilton with her latest review. This time she reviewed FOGLAND POINT by Doug Burgess.

Tuesday I reviewed THE BEST LOUSY CHOICE: AN ED EARL BURCH NOVEL by Jim Nesbitt. This is the third book in the crime fiction series set here in Texas.

Wednesday author Thomas B. Sawyer offered a guest post titled, MOVIES: PREVIEWS OF COMING ATTRACTIONS DISTRACTIONS.

Thursday I reviewed SHAMED: A NOVEL OF SUPSENSE by Linda Castillo. This is the latest in the Kate Burkholder series despite the cover art that does not really fit the book.

Friday saw the latest FFB Review from Barry Ergang. The previous week he reviewed BANK SHOT by Donald E. Westlake. Yesterday his all new review was on BIG BAD CITY by Ed McBain.

Every Saturday my son, Scott, offers his take on a book he has read. Today he reviews SUPERMAN VOLUME 1: THE UNITY SAGA: PHANTOM EARTH by Brian Michael Bendis.

Aubrey Nye Hamilton and Thomas Sawyer already have guest posts set up for this coming week.

More to come.

Want To Be A Guest?

Just another irregular reminder here that I welcome guests here on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and weekends. The topics of religion and politics should be avoided UNLESS either one or both directly relate to your book, short story, project, etc.  Everything else is pretty much fair game. And, no, I am broke and do not pay for guest posts.

Still interested? Contact me at kevinrtipple@verizon.net
