One thing I've never understood is a review where it's admitted they didn't read the book. A couple of pages, then bail, and a one star review. Don't get it.
Whenever I can't finish a book(and there have been some), I leave no review.
I have a three strike method. If I can't get into a book, I lay it aside for something else, never presuming a book is bad just because I don't like it. I come back to it later for a second try, then a third if I have to. After three tries, it goes into the give-up pile. But I will not review it if I haven't finished it.
I have given some three stars, and a couple of twos.
It is a strange deal. There was one I read a few years ago where the "reviewer" did not read beyond the first paragraph because there were three curse words in the first paragraph. Considering that the author had warned in the description and it was in the noir category, one would think such language would be expected.
