The early Reacher novels are fantastic, and dependent on Reacher being an old-fashioned mauler who relies on bulk and power and is very good at physically controlling situations with that power- nothing wrong with that. I've seen Lee Child discuss this at a conference; it was a deliberate choice to make him this way. The casting Alan Ritchson certainly fits that intention.
