Scott's Take: Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer Of Justice by Jeff Lemire

Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer Of Justice by Jeff Lemire is a crossover graphic novel where the Black hammer series crosses over with the Justice League. A stranger visits both realities and switches several members of each team. Several members of the Justice league become stranded on the farm from The Black Hammer series while the Black Hammer team is stranded in the DC universe. Both teams are trying to figure out what is going on. Who is the stranger and why did he do this?

This is a fun self-contained crossover for those familiar with both universes. One could read this without being really familiar with one of the universes, but it would help if one has read some stuff from both. One wishes the series was longer because it does not allow much time for how the disappearance of core members of the Justice League would affect the DC universe. For example, there are no scenes from Lois Lane’s perspective even though her husband, Superman, is missing. A situation worth exploring, among others, that is not at all.

The art is really good and there is some superhero fighting. The misunderstandings between the stranded superheroes in the wrong reality and the folks that do belong there are pretty hilarious. Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer Of Justice by Jeff Lemire is a really good book despite the short length. I enjoyed it and I recommend it.
