Sandi Update 8/24/17

Sandi update---PICC line is in. BUT.....the antibiotics that were delivered last night are the wrong dosage and frequency as the doc changed things this morning. She also needs platelets. So, until all of that is handled, she is not coming home today. Looking at dinner time if not later.

Sandi Update

She is a very unhappy patient for a variety of reasons. While I was there with Scott, her doctor came in to look at her leg. He says her leg looks better and that should mean the IV antibiotic is doing something. Quite honestly, he is apparently seeing an improvement that Sandi and I are not seeing.

The plan is for her to have the round the clock IV antibiotic for the next two weeks minimum. Sometime next week, if it becomes clear the antibiotic is working, they will start setting something up for her to have the IV antibiotic at home. How that will work we have no idea. 

In the meantime she is going nowhere and hating every minute of it. I know for sure I am going back down to the hospital tomorrow. I may stay home for the weekend as heavy rain is in the forecast and my cane does not do well on wet pavement. Neither do I for that matter. I have done way too much the last couple of days out of necessity and am paying the price.

As to reviews, for FFB tomorrow,  Barry's review of  the short story anthology Wicked Women will run. I have several reviews to write and post thanks to a lot of reading at the hospital, but have no idea when I will get to them.

Doctor Day Tomorrow--Sandi Update

Tomorrow morning we will be back at the cancer doctor's office down at Medical City Dallas for Sandi to have, at the bare minimum, some blood work done. She is not feeling at all well and seems to have really faded the last couple of days. While the leg and hi pain seems to have subsided some, she is now having shortness of breath when she moves around very much or climbs the stairs inside our apartment to go to bed. While this could be a side effect of her new antibiotic, and this is a side effect they warn about, it also could be a sign that her blood counts have dropped some more and she now needs a blood transfusion.

I'm hoping this is the antibiotic doing its thing and not blood count related. Since it started the next day after she started her antibiotic last week and she has never had this problem before---even where her blood counts were so low she was critical and needed a transfusion--- it seems very possible that this is antibiotic related.  If it is I don't know if this means she will have to again switch drugs or they will just try to manage it in some way.

Of coursee, she may need a transfusion anyway even if the antibiotic is causing this. We just won't know until the results start coming back late morning. If she does need one, we won't be back here until sometime late tomorrow evening because transfusions take forever when done on the outpatient basis. It could easily be a brutally long day for the both of us.
