In a little while, Sandi and I head over to the hospital for another try at getting the PET SCAN done. Hopefully her diabetes will cooperate and she can do the test today. Each scan costs about 5k and this is her third one since December. Her insurance is being difficult again as they claim, according to the doctor's office, that the scan is "not medically necessary."
Since such a scan is the only way we all have of knowing if the chemo has worked at all I really don't understand that at all.
Of course they also initially denied the first scan. The same scan that told us Sandi had two forms of Non-Hodgkin lymphomas everywhere except for her brain and spinal cord. The scan showed it everywhere and what the two types were. We had to know that , as did the doctor, so it could be determined which form of chemo gave her a chance that the cancer was not terminal. That first scan also was "not medically necessary."
When they did another PET SCAN at the halfway point to see if the chemo was doing anything at all that was also supposedly "not medically necessary."
I guess I should not be surprised. After all these are the same people who denied the claim for the anesthesiologist that worked on Sandi the day before thanksgiving when she underwent 16 biopsies as anesthesia was "not medically necessary" and the doctor was not covered.
It is going to be a long day and I will update as soon as I can........
