Hot Lead, Cold Iron: A Mick Oberon Job by Ari Marmell is a unique genre mashup. This book is a mashup of
a 30s noir private investigator style story with fantasy elements. Mick Oberon
is your typical 1930s noir detective except he is an exiled Fae prince. In his
latest case, he is hired by a mobster’s wife to find their missing daughter who
was replaced by a changeling (a Fae shapeshifter) 16 years ago. To do this he
must deal with mobsters and the Fae courts to find the missing girl.
This book is a good read if you are a
fan of both genres and like a flawed protagonist who is a little too arrogant
for his own good. Mick Oberon is a unique mix of clichés from both genres and
so is this story. It is a good book that is a promising start for a series that
includes three other books.
Second in the series is Hallow
Points: A Mick Oberon Job and that book is in my library TBR pile here
at the house.
