My Short Story Reading at Noir At The Bar: Dallas

Last Sunday evening I read my short story, Package of Pain, at Noir At The Bar: Dallas at The Wild Detectives. Those that were there and heard it seemed to have really liked it. It was originally written around thirty years ago.  I never could get any market to pick it up so it eventually wound up in my short story collection, Mind Slices.

It is again going to see the light of day as it will appear in the anthology, Crimeucopia: Say it Again. The anthology of reprints is due out in January. If you can’t wait, please go buy Mind Slices at Amazon or Smashwords.

The Morning After

Had a lot of fun at The Wild Detectives last night. Have no idea how my reading went though I think folks enjoyed it. People may just have been being polite. Word is that it will happen again sometime in November. Date to be announced later.

As always, going out in public takes a massive toll. This time was no exception. I am exhausted and massively hurting as the normal pain is way worse after I exert like that. So, while I mat be online here and there just to see what is going on, don't expect much from me today. This is a day primarily of bed and TV.

I will be reading from my short story, The Beetle's Last Fifty Grand, which appears in the recently released crime fiction anthology, Back Road Bobby and His Friends. I have been told I am reading third tonight so that should be around 7:30 ish. Hope you come out if you are in the area.

NOIR AT THE BAR: Dallas ---Thursday Evening

To the right is the revised reading lineup for Noir At the Bar: Dallas this coming Thursday evening.

I plan on reading a tale that was published long ago. It is not a suicide tale no matter what two editors thought at the time when they rejected it for their respective publications. “Bars Of The Heart” is a dark tale that was partially inspired by our plane flight home in June of 1985 after our wedding. We went through some scary things to get back on the ground at DFW. Nearly two months later, much of the same stuff happened, and another plane would not be so lucky. The nation and the world would see the sights, sounds, and destruction of the Delta 191 crash at DFW.

Tonight at Louie's

From left to right, Johnny Wesner, Jim Nesbitt, myself, and Scott Tipple out this evening at Louie's. A legendary place that is also a favorite watering hole of Jim Nesbitt's. Frequently referenced in Jim's great Ed Earl Burch Mystery Series, it is a cool place. Jim is in town for the Noir At The Bar: Dallas event and will be reading alongside myself and several other fine folks.

This is the first time I have read something to folks in public in two decades so hopefully all will go well. Due to the time constraints, I ditched my original story and will be reading three different flash fiction pieces. I will still be wearing pants.
