Barry Ergang's New Story: The Audiophile Murder Case

The latest published read from Barry Ergang is a short story.  Originally published in 1982 in Stereophile Magazine, his short story, “The Audiophile Murder Case” is now available in digital format at Amazon and Smashwords. The tale is “a satire of the high-end audio business as a parody/pastiche of the Philo Vance mystery novels by S. S. Van Dine.” You can pick up a number of the S. S. Smashwords.com is holding its year-end sale, which began at 1 minute after midnight Pacific time on December 25th, and ends at midnight Pacific time on January 1st. Along with many other writers, I'm participating. 

     Three of my e-books, "Criminalities," "Slow and Quiet, Drift Away," and "A Flash of Fear," are year-round freebies. For the duration of the sale I've also made "Funeral for a Flightless Phoenix" and "No Candles for Antiochus" freebies. "The Vole Eater," "The Boy Who Ate Rainbows," "Stuffed Shirt," "PUN-ishing Tales," and "The Play of Light and Shadow," which were never pricey to begin with, have all been marked down until the sale ends.

     Smashwords allows authors to decide how long samplers of individual works can be, and I've been pretty generous in that regard. For the 10th year in a row, Smashwords is having a sale for the month of July. Both Barry and I are participating. The official word from Barry comes from part of an email he sent out to folks yesterday.... 

“The e-book site Smashwords.com is running its annual July Summer/Winter Sale, which runs from July 1st through the 31st.  Participating authors lower the prices on their work for the month. I am participating, as I usually do, and although my priced offerings are not exorbitant to begin with (three of them are free year-round), I'll be reducing their prices for the sale period. They include a locked-room mystery novelette; a spoof of science-fiction writer Mike Resnick's The Soul Eater; a collection of humorous stories loaded with word-play, especially puns; a fantasy story for children; a dystopian comedy; a hardboiled Hanukkah story; and a story of workplace revenge. As for myself, I had pretty much decided I wasn’t going to fool with doing this again for a variety of reasons. Like me, it is pretty weird. For the most part, the reviews have been positive except for a couple of folks that prove the old adage that one will never be universally loved or appreciated. THE FINAL HOURS of the Smashwords End of Year Sale

These are the final hours of the Smashwords End of Year Sale. 2017 has been a very bad year in so many ways. Go pick up a book and make the real world go away for a little while.

Weighted down by holding his Derringer Award in one hand while he held his dog, Duncan, in the crook of his other arm and hand and thus was only able to type with his nose, Barry Ergang  put his books at a reduced price. For those who always said I was brainless I used an image from one of my several MRIs back in 2010 for the cover of my short story collection.  Mind Slices: A Collection of New and Previously Published Stories.  Most folks who have read it and seem to have a brain have liked it though one person who didn’t was apparently so devastated by the experience he never reviewed another book on Amazon. You can do better!  The book is available for FREE during the Smashwords' year-end sale from December 25th to January 1st. If you choose to pick it up and read it, please review it as you see fit.
