Children's Book Review: "The Penguin Way" by Scott Gordon

An inspirational story aimed at very young children, The Penguin Way tells the tale of a penguin that does things no matter the odds or his abilities. No matter what the activity is, the little penguin does it to the best of his ability. In so doing he remains true to his own self. Perseverance to the best of their ability is the penguin way in this charming and positive read.

While more than half the book is taken up by ads, what is here in this short book is a fun positive read aimed at a three to six year old audience. The illustrations are simple and clever. The clear text works well for the intended audience though some words may be a bit tough for the young readers. The core message of staying positive, perseverance, and self-reliance is a good message for kids of all ages. Like Scott Gordon’s other books for children The Penguin Way works well and is worth your time.

Children's Book Review: "Bubble Gum Princess" by Scott Gordon

This charming children’s book tells the tale of a young girl who someday will be all grown up with her own family.  In the meantime, the young girl is the narrator’s everything and every moment is precious. Who knows how long it will be before her Prince Charming arrives to take her to his castle in the sky. Despite the changes as you grow older:

“You’ll always be my little princess;

The little girl who chewed bubble gum

and got it in her hair.”

Like other books from this author, approximately half the book consists of ads for other products.  The storyline is simple and straightforward fitting the targeted age group and the images are a nice touch. The princess images completely fit the storyline and age group and showcase a little variety.

This fun children’s book has received some criticism regarding cleavage in the illustrations. One wonders what the fuss is about because the comments do not really reflect the book in any way, shape, or form. This is a fun book filled with no deeper meaning or images than love.

Children's Book Review: " Adorable Dogs: Bulldogs" by Scott Gordon

Using simple pictures of various bulldogs and short captions, the book tells the tale of Marvin and his bulldog family. Momma is a tough task master and has definite expectations for her bulldog children. Finally, Marvin figures out that Mom is being hard on them because they never thank her for all she does. Mom and Marvin share a Christmas bonding moment of family love before she barks at him about getting his new shirt dirty.

The short story winds up with fun facts about bulldogs and links to three sites about bulldogs. The remaining more than half of the book is devoted to ads for the numerous other books by the author.

Aimed at the three to six year old crowd, the lesson here is that mom is tough because she is not thanked enough by her kids. All she wants is the best for them and wants them to understand that. A thought that may or may not have completely resonated with Marvin, who has the last word with his comment, “Oh momma, you’re impossible.”

The photographic illustrations are simple with the dogs either sitting, lying down, or standing. The dogs are occasionally posed with a prop of some type such as ac birthday hat, Christmas stocking, etc. Readers of the age group targeted may have some difficulties with words such as “impossible, instructions, diabetes,” etc., in this otherwise well done book.

Review: "Pigtastic!" by Scott Gordon

Charmingly illustrated by Julien Tromeur, Pigtastic! by Scott Gordon gently teaches little ones to accept their own individuality. Facing the reader, the pig explains that though the pig may not be rich, the pig has a heart of gold and that is what matters. The pig stresses through various other examples to consider the

interior of a person and not what he or she is on the outside.

The book concludes with six ads for other books created by the author Scott Gordon. Many of these books have been translated into other languages including Pigtastic.

Colorful and fun, the pig provides a positive role model for little ones ages 3-6 in a very short read that will entertain and educate. Illustrations and text are very simple and tell the thoughts well. While the artwork and text may be very simple, the taught concepts of being positive and accepting of yourself are very important. Like Alphabet All-Stars, Pigtastic! by Scott Gordon is a good one.

Review: "Alphabet All-Stars" by Scott Gordon

With colorful illustrations by Iryna Akolzina, Lorelyn Medina, and Nadezda Kouzntsova, the e-book Alphabet All-Stars by Scott Gordon teaches little ones the alphabet. Each letter of the alphabet is depicted with an upper case and lower case letter, an illustration and a short two sentence explanation.  For example:

“C is for Crab.

Crabs are funny

Creatures that

Walk sideways.”

A little explanation goes with each letter in a fun filled way of importing knowledge to little ones. The illustrations are a nice touch as they colorful depict not just the alphabet letter, but the accompanying item image.

At the end of the book there is an illustration of all the letters on one page, followed by a congratulatory message about being an alphabet all-star. That is followed by six ads for other children books developed by author Scott Gordon.

Overall this is a colorful and well done e-book that teaches the little ones approximately three to six the alphabet. In addition to teaching the alphabet, Alphabet All-Stars provides a little information about various things using the letters. Flat out fun and a book that not only works well for the little ones it also meets the expectations of the adults in their lives.
