We are excited to have Tim Tingle, award winning children’s book author and Choctaw storyteller, as our keynote speaker at our annual dinner on May 14th.
His first children’s book, Crossing Bok Chitto, won over 20 state and national awards and was on the ALSC Notable Books for Children list. His most recent children’s book, Saltypie, was just chosen as one of only 25 International Reading Association Notable Books for a Global Society.
In addition to the opportunity to hear from a great speaker, your members who attend will help us raise funds to support our shared goal of literacy enrichment. Our non-profit runs reading incentive programs in elementary schools in low-income neighborhoods in Plano, Dallas, and Richardson ISDs. Since we began in August of 2009, our students have earned 8,190 new books of their choice as rewards for reading outside of school hours.
Please note that the event begins with mingling and a silent auction, and then the doors to the dining room are opened for everyone to enter at once. Therefore, if several members of your group decide to attend it will be easy to sit at a table together.
Thank you for any assistance in spreading the word about our event.
