The first turtles have made their appearance for 2011. The picture below was taken by my wife, Sandi, yesterday afternoon along with several other ones while standing on our back porch.
The picture below also shows some of the small fish ( the dark shadows) currently teeming in the creek. There has been no sign on the Asian Carp that normally by now would be consuming everything in sight.
While you can't tell it from these pictures, the bank from our apartment down to the small creek is extremely steep. This means that I no longer can go fishing down there like I used to. Instead, I sit on my porch and read and watch the creek when I can sit up for awhile. I managed to get out there yesterday for about an hour and it was nice to see that the turtles had returned.
Hopefully, the bull frogs will soon be back as well.

Turtles! Very cool. It's difficult to tell from the pic, but they appear to be red eared sliders, or a close releative.
FYI: I raise turtles in my basement--red-eared sliders, yellow-bellied sliders and eastern box turtles. Interesting critters to observe and enjoy.
Glad to learn that you're able to get out at least a bit to read.
Have no idea what they are, Terry. I can tell you that when they get fully grown their shells are bigger than dinner plates.
Yes, I limp out on to the porch with cane in hand and read or write a bit. Gets me outside which is a good thing.
Really neat pictures. Thanks for sharing. I had cataracts removed the end of last week so I'm home from work and catching up a little bit.
Take care of yourself, Pat!
