North Texas Tornadoes Today

Quite the nerve wracking afternoon with civil defense sirens sounding multiple times due to a number of tornadoes (preliminary count is twelve) that have crashed through the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. No fatalities---amazingly--- with whole neighborhoods obliterated. Much of the damage is in the cities or Arlington and Lancaster which have both instituted curfews. Local news is repeatedly showing footage of 18 wheelers being picked up and tossed, entire roofs coming off of buildings and being tossed, and other very scary stuff.

We were very fortunate to not see any large hail or high winds. At one point, Sandi and I watched what we believe to have been a funnel cloud go directly over head. Whatever it was only dipped down and never made it all the way to the ground.

So, the nerves are pretty much fried but we have no damage and are very thankful.

Glad to see you folks made it through alright and happy no lives were lost. Those things are dangerous.

We don't get them at that rate hear in Noth Carolina, but usually get a few every year in the state.

Thanks, Randy.

Ironically, the forecast was for a slight chance of severe weather with the worry about large hail. There was large hail as big as softballs. A bunch of tornadoes too.

I'm relieved to know you guys are all right. NBC Nightly News showed the footage of the 18-wheelers being tossed around like plastic toys, and I immediately wondered if you were affected. Glad to hear that the funnel cloud or whatever it was that passed over you had no ill effects.

You probably saw the strike on Lancaster, Barry. Some of those 18 wheelers went a half a mile through the air in distance and in height.

We were very, very lucky today.
