Begging For Your Help

Frequent readers of my blog here and my posts on various lists know that in March 2010 my life went seriously haywire. Initially diagnosed as a blood clot in the left leg and later diagnosed as untreatable sciatica, whatever is really wrong with me has spread into my arms and hands. I live in constant horrendous pain, have very limited mobility, frequently fall even with the use of a cane, and other issues. I lost my job last year, got sued by the only creditor who refused to work with me, CITIBANK and their third party collection attorneys ALLEN ADKINS & ASSOCIATES (court date May 16, 2011 at 9:30 in Precinct Four J.P. Court), filed for social security disability and food stamps, lost my COBRA insurance and numerous other problems including pretty much destroying my ability to write. Much of what I now write in terms of reviews and blog material is actually dictated to my teenage son, Scott, who types it in for me.

It has taken a huge toll not only on me but on the family. I am sure it played a major role in my wife’s heart attack and strokes late last April. I know it has played a huge role in her recent health setback which has resulted in lost work, new medical expenses for her, and other issues.

All this leads up to my point today---I am begging for your help to pay my rent. No matter how many ways we look at it, the numbers don’t change. We are going to be short about $350.00 bucks for the rent due May 1—assuming something else does not catastrophically go wrong in the meantime making things worse.  If we are short the rent due on May 1, the fact that we have lived here since 1987 really won’t matter as they go to court quick for non-payment and get folks evicted fast. Can’t say I blame them but it does not bode well for us. The one homeless shelter in Collin County where we live is beyond its capacity which means we can’t go there.

I honestly don’t know what we would do or where we would go.

So, I am begging for your help. Any amount is much, much appreciated and it all helps. Please know that I don’t ask for your help lightly. I am humiliated and very upset about all of this. I am 49 years old and never thought I would find myself in these kinds of straits.

But, I am.  We are. I, as well as the family, truly need your help.

Hi Kevin, again, I'm so sorry about all your troubles. I chipped in, and hope every bit counts. If you'd like to talk over things, please just email or contact me on my blog. Best to you and your family. Jenny

Oh my gosh, Jenny, THANK YOU SO MUCH. Every bit does count and is very gratefully received--not just by me but all of us. Thank you!

Me too, Pat R. I guess it is a snowball effect.

From experience, a social security disability can be a godsend. I became disabled when I was 46 and applied for SSDI. I was your age when it finally came through. (The three-year delay was due to the fact that someone mixed up my records with my father's and decided I had been dead for twelve years. Hopefully your application will go much more smoothly.)

SSDI will make you eligible for Medicare, which, in turn, will help in treating your neuropathy.

Kitty and I wish the very best to you and your family.

Kevin -- I just chipped in.

Now, I have an observation. Many of the symptoms you describe also fit my mother several years ago. She was to the point where both hands and feet were totally numb and visiting a neurosurgeon when he looked at test results from another doctor. Dad and she walked into the room and he told her to sit down, they were flying in what she needed from Maryland and she couldn't leave until it arrived. Seems she was not retaining vitamin B12. She was on shots for the problem the rest of her life, but she got all the feeling back in her hands and most of it in her feet.

I don't know that this is the same thing but a simple blood test, probably already taken, could determine it. Seems most doctors don't look at B12 unless asked.

Praying for you and the family.

Oh, you don't need to post this unless you want to -- Patty

Thank you, Patty. Much apapreicted.

I was told they checked that last September and it was fine. I was found to be far below normal in both Calcium (which must explain why my teeth were breaking) and Vitamin D. Got put on supplements for that.

Currently with no insurance and having been denied for Medicaid, there is no way for me to see anybody and have blood tests run again.
