Early this morning, I signed a contract with Mystery Weekly for my short story, "The Damn Rodents Are Everywhere." I have already received payment. Publication date is to be determined.
I am stunned. I am also very grateful.
This short story was the final one Sandi and I ever talked about as we went to her cancer treatments. It was the final story I ever worked on there as she slept through chemo.
It means more than I can explain that this one finally has a publishing home.

Congratulations, Kevin!
Congratulations, Kevin! "Mystery Weekly" is a great publication, and Editor Kerry Carter a joy to work with. I know this is a bittersweet accomplishment, but I have a feeling Sandi would be very proud, too. Looking forward to reading the story!
Thank you. It comes with a lot of emotion.
I am absolutely sure she would be. She kept telling me that after she was gone, I had to keep going... and keep writing. Those last couple of weeks when she was home on hospice, she made me promise to do both more than once. I made that promise. Not realizing how hard it was going to be to do anything as I thought I was ready as there was plenty of warning of what was to come. Had no idea how stupid I was to think that.
To have it find a home with such a quality publication is incredible.
Thank you, Unknown!
Congrats, Kevin. You’re a terrific writer and an even better person.

That is spectacular news!!
Thank you, Bruce. Appreciate it very much.
Thank you, Maurissa.
We had been talking about the story and saw something like three or four pest control trucks in a row at a stoplight. All different companies, but they were all lined up together like what you see when the utility trucks are headed to a wiped out area. I can not remember if Sandi said it or I did, but I do remember it happening, our laughing about it, and the title was born.
Thank you, Judy.
This is fabulous! Congratulations, Kevin. Now, you need to keep going, and keep writing, as she said. And, you've already been paid!
That's wonderful news, Kevin! I can't wait to read it. Congratulations!
Thank you, Lesa.
This is the first time that payment long before publication deal has ever happened to me. A very pleasant surprise as well. Along with being the most any publication has ever paid me.
Thanks, Ben.
I honestly have no idea when it will be out. I am guessing the next several issues are planned out, so it would be late summer --what we often call November--at the earliest.
That's wonderful, Kevin (& Sandi). I can't wait to read your story!
Thank you, Elizabeth. I hope that, someway, somehow, she knows.
I'm so happy for you, Kevin!
Thank you, Anita.
