Sucessful Port Removal Surgery

Back home from the hospital after Sandi had surgery this afternoon to remove the port in her chest that had become infected with the bacterial blood infection thingy. It was a little over three hours from start to finish. While her blood pressure was a bit elevated afterwards, everything else seemed to be in pretty good shape. They were addressing her blood pressure issue and seemed to have it under control. Shortly after this picture was taken, they made the determination that she did not need the oxygen as her numbers were high enough that she was okay.

She is back on one of the more powerful antibiotics to try and make sure that the surgery did not make things worse infection wise. The hope is that by removing the port, the infection issue will be solved.

Well, one hurdle over. Here's hoping that removal of the portal will speed the recovery from the infection. I'm relieved she came through that part of it well.

Fingers still crossed and good thoughts sent your way.

She is in a lot of pain from the surgical site, but is doing okay so far. The surgeon believes that the port was fine. But, he also agreed that it should come out as it had been in four years and they usually are removed after a year to two years depending on how things are going.

She desperately wants out, but with all the issues here at the house, I think she is safer there than here.
