What we had hoped was nothing more than a side effect of the white blood shot she got Tuesday has turned into a raging case of.....something. Sandi is very sick, running a fever, and tests are being done to see if it is a version of the flu, an upper respiratory infection, or something else. Chest x-rays were taken and things are being evaluated. At least some fluid is in her lungs at this point, which is very bad as it could easily trigger a return of the nuemenitis or something way worse.
The bottom line is that they know for sure she is very sick.....with what is the big question.
The rest of her blood work was also not good today. In fact, it was very bad.
So, she has received an IV antibiotic and fluids.
Tomorrow, we have to be back down there just after the crack of dawn so she can be given more IV antibiotics as well as two units of blood. Despite the fact she is so sick the blood transfusion has to be done because her numbers are so low. There is no choice on the matter.
It has been a brutally long day for both of us--we just got home having left just before 9 am--- and tomorrow promises to be way worse.

Gotta keep the faith, but it's tough at times like this, I know.
In my prayers--both of you.
I'm so very sorry to read this news, Kevin. I'll hope for the best for both of you.
So sorry, Kevin. You have been to hell and back more times than anyone I know.
Prayers continue, Kevin.
Thank you all.....I have always feared infection for her. Something like the common cold could easily be fatal and it is something they have all worried about as well. The cancer is bad, but all involved have always said that organ failure from the chemo or simple infection that could not be stopped were the two biggest threats day to day. We already know her kidneys are trying to fail and they have been fighting that for the last several months as they have gotten worse. Now this. Hopefully, whatever the hell this is, can be stopped quickly without things escalating further.
She ate maybe three bites of dinner around 5:30 and went back to bed and has slept continuously since. How much of this is the drugs they gave her today and how much is her being sick I don't know. I will be forced to wake her up in about a half an hour or so in order for her to take the 18 drugs she takes at bedtime. She won't be happy with me, but, like so much of this stuff, it has to be done.
I hope I have better news to share tomorrow.
Kevin, I am so sorry to hear this bad news regarding Sandi's new symptoms and setback. I will keep praying.
